In late October 2009, FAT embarked on one of its greatest print programs to date.
With the help of Studio Pip and Co. – FATMAP was developed.
It was a free limited edition A6 pocket size map which folded into an A2 poster with FAT store locations, other culturally like mined retailers, galleries and cafes which FAT felt represent the ‘hop spots’ of Melbourne.
Four different artists were commissioned to produce a poster design for the back side.
Eugene Nemesi / Sunday Rennie / Tim Hillier / Andrew Ashton
Each print projected a different type of art – photography, illustration and graphic design.
Over 10,000 copies were distributed throughout Melbourne

After a hugely successful 2009 for the inaugural year of the “hello darkness horror film festival”, Rachael Cotra director of FAT and Hello Darkness will once again showcase the best local & international Horror films in its 2010 program later this year.
But no need to wait until then for an immediate fix in quality cinema.
On the 10th of February there will be a screening of the visually sumptuous stalker, Andrei Tarkovsky’s 1979 Russian masterpiece. An epic sci-fi parable; a perplexing inquiry into freedom and faith, which unfolds in an unspecified totalitarian society where the normal laws of physics no longer apply.
The film was chosen by Rachael to be a part of the rooftop cinema’s film appreciation series because, “Andrei tarkovsky films are the finest example of poetic cinema, visual fugue and for his depiction of emptiness, grief and the end…. No one can make me feel as bereaved as Andrei..”
To make the evening even more special, a soundscape has been composed by wilham as an appropriate pre curser to set the scene for the evening.
June 2008 marked the Tenth year since the Opening of the first store, and the start of a slew of birthday related Fat festivities… The first instalment of a three-part celebration in a century of great times was TEN, the great Fat art auction, promoting the relationship built over the years between Fat, fashion and art. Following will be TEN the party, with bands and dj’s representing our involvement of music in and out of the stores, and finishing with the Melb Spring fashion week showcasing the fashion element to the business. Some of Australia’s leading contemporary artists, all of whom have been a part of the Fat story so far, donated an amazing selection of works to be put up for auction. The one night exhibition was a great success, all of the artwork going under the hammer, helping us generate over $12,000, the proceeds going to the “Immigrant women’s domestic violence service.” We chose this charity over others as IWDVS gives voice and provides culturally sensitive services to meet the needs of women and children from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds affected by domestic violence. For more information go to www.iwdvs.org.au. A huge thankyou to the artists, all of our sponsors, Sotheby’s, Belvedere Vodka, Nutrient Water, Peroni, and Murray White Room for exhibiting the works in their beautiful space. With further thanks to all of our friends, loyal customers, and associates who came along to show their support.

Guided by the sounds of Ponyclub Massacre (a string quartet recreating modern classics from the likes of Joy Division and David Bowie), the preview of Chronicles of Never – ‘Water Will Burn’, Gareth Moody’s spring/summer ‘07/’08 collection was launched Thursday, 6 September at the Fat GPO store in the center of Melbourne.
Born of a leather bound book full of scribbles and spells and a whimsical desire to design with different mediums and new shapes, Chronicles of Never is, according to Moody, “Loosely based upon mathematics and heavily influenced by architecture and geometrics, the 14th letter, audible vision, and the theory of light”. It is in essence his dreams brought to life.
Melbourne and Sydney’s edgy fashion elite milled amongst the “few hundred effortlessly cool guests” in the historic GPO building sipping the finest Absolut pear vodka and nibbling on plates of some damn fancy hors dourves. Fat and Chronicles of Never would like to thank Absolut, Peroni, Perrier, Kid You Not and all who attended for their generous support.
